Hiking at Bennett Spring Trails

Bennett Spring State Park offers hiking trails covering 12 miles of scenic views featuring the Ozarks, streams, the spring, spring branch and hardwood forests. Trails are limited to foot traffic and average a seven percent grade. Trail registration and safety information is available at the trail head parking area. Trails listed below.

                     Natural Tunnel

This 7 mile (round trip distance) trail extends south along Spring Hollow to the Natural Tunnel, a unique geologic feature that is 15 feet wide and takes a S-shaped curve before ending 296 feet later.

                   Savanna Ridge

The two-mile trail starts close to Bennett Spring; it curves through the woods along bluff tops overlooking the Ozarks.

                 Spring and Whistle Trails

These trails follow the spring branch for one and one-half miles, where you have a great view of the crystal clear waters of Bennett Spring. Spring Trail joins the spring and hatchery and travels by historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) buildings and a natural area, the Bennett Spring Hanging Fen. The fen is known for its steep wet slopes covered with lush sedges and wildflowers. Whistle Trail begins on the stream side opposite the hatchery and follows the stream to the Niangua River. The rugged terrain in front of and on top of several bluffs challenges those who seek adventure, but offer great views overlooking the valley.

           Oak-Hickory, Bluff and Bridge Trails

These trails travel up into the forest habitats away from the stream. Hardwood forests, glades and bottomland meadows are peaceful journeys where you may glimpse deer, turkey and a variety of woodland birds. Bluff Trail features many overlooks with views of the spring branch and park grounds
